2022
I apologise! I have not added any “real” art on my blog in 2022….simply didn’t make time, but I do continue to make cards for church and birthdays and doodle in my sketchbooks. Just not very wonderful at uploading onto the internet.
A few cards with my illustrations and lettering: for church

2021
SKETCHING: In 2021 I have mainly gone outdoors to sketch in “urban sketching” style. Mostly people and mostly in my neighbourhood.
Following these sketches are some of my calligraphy and Illustration works

Some of my calligraphy and illustration

FOLLOWING ARE WORKS FROM PREVIOUS YEARS
The new landscape paintings were done in classes with Enda Bardell.
The whole idea was to loosen up and stop fussing with detail by painting two full large pictures in one class.
As a detail person, this was difficult for me. Watercolours.

ALASKA SKETCHES

How I used one of the backgrounds I produced in Violet’s class. I sketched the blackbird silhouette from a photo of a bird in a friend’s Texas travels email. Very different looking bird to our varieties I think.

Spent a fun and very creative and busy weekend with Westcoast Calligraphy’s Violet Smythe “Layers, texture and text” Made lots of background layers..
On 2, I experimented with text…

pencil work above…Joyce’s boot! …………….. and a walking man……
From Alfonso’s class – below

The next images are from my sketchbook. I have been taking an “urban sketching” class. Trying to loosen up and learn to do very quick sketches outside with very little equipment. Local scenes and one in the Freemont area of Seattle where I went with Myles and Janet and Molly for a birthday trip. The next two images are from a wonderful calligraphy workshop taught by Heather Victoria Held. Learning about constructing and painting borders for illuminations and “enchanted letters”
My first try with a portrait of Lauren…sepia only. Must try colour next
and a small watercolour of a woodland
Portrait of a finsherman .(now sometime I have to tackle water, mist and trees.)….and a man’s head…Art class with Homa
Painting trees, leaves and snow scenes this month in class and a figure in motion
A few experiments and pieces. The gypsy girl head – second from the bottom – is from an old photograph. The photo is on the internet, but I have no idea who she was or who took the photograph. I did the sketch in a drawing class though.
